Chiostro di Sant'Orso, the Irish Monk and Saint, in Aosta

Saint Orsus was an Italian saint of the 5th  Century, of Irish origin, who lived as a monk in Aosta.

Façade of the church of
Sant'Orso

Sant'Orso is a collegiate church, built very close to the Cathedral of Aosta.

Marvelous beamed gothic
vaults cover the archway.

Il Chiostro (or Cloister in English), was established in his memory and honor. Il Chiostro (or Cloister in English), was established in his memory and honor.

Columned archways limit all four sides of the
atrium of the cloister.

Absorbing the peace and tranquility of the
cloister.

Each column has its individually characteristic
 Romanic period capital.

Well in the middle of the cloister courtyard in
Aosta

The capital of this pillar must
refer to some forgotten fable
of which I cannot begin to
fathom.
